Finally we get some Traditional “NASCAR” Racing in Phoenix, Arizona. Not a Road Course or Super Speedway. Just a Mile long track as a potential preview when you come back here in November for one race to crown a potential Champion.
Interesting finish to the Xfinity Race watching Aric Amirolla slap William Byron into the wall like Aric was Jesus slapping a Money Changer for the win. Yea yea I know, the last lap and all. Sucks for Allgaier he had this race won up until that late caution.
Now we get to the Cup race and the most controversy I have to deal with so far this season (well as a fan anyway). Let me get my notes together and my fake research glasses on.
Before I rant about that, lemme just say the Option Tire is the way to go. I agree with the Drivers and say that Softer compound should be the main tire at Phoenix and tracks like that. If you have gradual wear, you put the race on the Driver’s hands. Which makes it more entertaining and you get more money. Go with it!!
Onto our Main Rant
Bob Pockrass announced in a tweet on March 6th, 2025 that Katherine Legge was “approved” by NASCAR for competition in the 78 Droplight Chevy for Live Fast Motorsports in an Open Car. Her “approval” was based on her Open Wheel experience, her racing for ARCA at Daytona earlier this year, Sim Practice and some Pit Practice over at Hendrick Motorsports. That and a 45 minute practice wouldn’t hurt either.
If this was known well in advance, why didn’t LFM attempt to get her the OEP?? Maybe get some publicity on it. Tell the fans her qualifications. Her experience in MANY disciplines of Racing. Idk promote it?? Anything, but put a Woman (or ANYONE for that matter) out on track and say “She’s qualified trust me Bro”. Who’s next Tom Cruise??
Deals shouldn’t be this hastily done in NASCAR Cup. It could lead to disaster. Like spinning out on the 4th lap all by yourself and spinning later on causing another driver to wreck out of the race. Gee sound Familiar??
Remember when you wouldn’t allow Mike Wallace into the Daytona 500 cause of his “Lack of qualifications” ?? How about maybe not put someone in a Cup car who’s only NASCAR Oval experience is a top 30 in Xfinity at Richmond in the last decade (2018). Maybe make them run the ARCA or Truck/Xfinity Race beforehand like you do at Daytona, Maybe tell them (outside of the Daytona 500) run 5 Ovals in the NASCAR National Series and we can talk Cup.
Again anything but put someone in the Car say “They’re Qualified, Trust me Bro” seems sus.
And this is why I’m not allowed to be in charge of Billion Dollar Decisions
For some reason I feel the need to talk about this and not Christopher Bell performing his rendition of DJ Khaled’s “All I do is Win” think about it y’all.
